Hyundai
officially took the wraps off of the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq at this years
New York Auto show. On display were the three versions of the
eco-friendly vehicle- Ioniq Electric, Ioniq Hybrid, and Ioniq Plug-in
Hybrid.
While
the Ioniq is not the first venture into alternatively-powered vehicles,
it does make a statement that they are jumping in with both feet. The
Ioniq, from the beginning, is meant to compete head-on with the Toyota
Prius, which has been the standard-bearer in the class since...well
since forever. But Hyundai is confident that they are up to the
challenge with the Ioniq.
According to Hyundai USA, "Ioniq gives you the power of choice. Each model, all-electric, hybrid
and plug-in hybrid, is based on a dedicated vehicle platform designed to
enhance efficiency, comfort and handling. Plus, our Blue Drive® technology gives you lower pollution and higher performance."
In
addition to three different eco-friendly powertrains, the Ioniq offers
something else that the Prius arguably does not- superior styling.
Hyundai has made a great effort to build a car that will make the
"green" crowd swoon, while not styling it to look "eccentric" as many of
the competitors have.
Gurley Leep Hyundai is looking forward bringing the Hyundai Ioniq to the Michiana area later this fall. Be sure to check back regularly for more information on when it will be available.
