Hyundai is joining the revolution of
the small crossover SUV. Following in the steps of competing manufactures, they
are taking their already popular crossover style and putting it on a smaller
frame.
This year at the LA Auto Show,
Hyundai laid out their plans to change the all-important crossovers to better
suit the public’s urges. The plans that they set forth include two important
aspects: up-sizing the existing crossovers and introducing a new smaller
crossover.
Hyundai North American CEO Dave
Zuchowski, explained that the Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Sport will both be
larger. The seven seat Santa Fe will gain another seat and the Santa FE Sport
will be rebranded. The Tuscan will also grow a little bit, but won’t go through
a major design change. Hyundai is hoping that the redesigned Santa Fe and Tucson’s
will be ready for sale by 2020.
By
2020, Hyundai plans on having both a new A-segment and B-segment crossovers
released, with the B-segment possibly as early as 2018. The B-segment would be
in direct competition with vehicles like the Honda HR-V and the Jeep Renegade.
