2018 Hyundai Sonata, Refreshed

The Hyundai Sonata is gearing up to enter 2018 with a fresh new look and improved power to boot. The debut at the New York Auto Show this year revealed a dramatic new fascia and a lot of interior improvements that are going to make the Sonata stand out like never before. Unlike typical mid-generation refreshers, the Sonatas tweaks are comprehensive and not only give the car a new feel but a completely new driving experience too.

The exterior style has become much more distinctive with the new ‘cascading grille’ and a newly designed rear- now featuring a plate. Hyundai is the only car company that actually manufacturers its own steel, and the cascading design of the front grille was wholly inspired by the flow of molten metal as its poured. The front fenders and sheet metal have both been sharply tailored to suit the new look. Hyundai has also reworked the alloy wheels and lighting to solidify the now sharper and more aggressive appearance.

The interior layout is still reminiscent of last years but now features a more eye-catching center stack and instrument panel that have been redesigned to achieve better visual dimension and aesthetic. The new and improved center console features a seven inch touch screen, better aligned audio controls and a now leather wrapped three spoke steering wheel.

The Sonata can now be powered by an optional 2-liter turbo four cylinder paired to an adrenaline pumping eight speed transmission, but you can still opt for the old 2.4-liter with a six speed transmission. The six speed has provided the Sonata a unanimously satisfying balance of power and control for years, but the new eight speed transmission will still be a clear choice for anyone seeking the upmost performance and efficiency, and who doesn’t want that?

Although the 2018 Sonata hasn’t undergone a full redesign, Hyundai still puts its magic in the details and continues to release beautiful cars, year after year. Enticing Peak at Hyundais Brand-New Kona

Last year Hyundai announced their plans to dominate the 2018 compact SUV market with a new release in 2017. Up until just the other day, we had only been given images of a sliver of the hood, ever so slightly illuminated by the piercing headlights, and we were left with that tiny glimpse for months! Hyundai has now offered up a bit more information, and we now know the ringer will be named the Kona.

The Kona is expected to have three engine options; a turbocharged 1.0 L, a 1.4 L, and a 1.6 L diesel. The Kona appears to be bulkier than the Hyundai i30, the SUV it shares engine options with, so the 1.4 L and 1.6 L will likely be the favored options over the lighter, single liter engine.

Although we do still need to wait just a bit longer for the full reveal, Hyundai has graced us with with some slightly more revealing teaser images, and now a video as well. The video doesn’t reveal any more body parts than we’ve been allotted via photos thus far, but it does reveal the fact that the Kona will be Hyundais very first model to feature a Heads-Up display.

Check out the preview video for the Kona here, or visit our website here to request updates on the big reveal!

Hyundai Recall

Hyundai has issued a vast recall and is making plans to inspect and possibly replace up to 1.3 million vehicles. Affected vehicles include the Hyundai Sonata and Santa Fe Sport crossover equipped with their 2.0 and 2.4 L “Theta” four cylinder engines. The recall spans across vehicles that were built in Hyundais plant in Montgomery, Alabama between 2011 and 2014.

Thus far, approximately 10 percent to 20 percent of said vehicles have reported engine stalls. The issue can contribute to a loud knocking noise in addition to a loss of power. If the check engine light or engine oil pressure lights illuminate unexpectedly, be particularly aware of any issues or noises coming from the engine, as it could be an indication of a faulty engine.

If your vehicle is liable to be included in the recall, it’s important to take preventative measures to ensure the safety of your family and others on the road. This link can send you to Hyundais ‘Recalls and Service Campaigns’ page, where you can enter your VIN number to find out if your vehicle is subject to recall, and if it is, can direct you to your free service before you run into a problem on the road.

Thank you for reading and most importantly, be safe!

Hyundai Santa Fe's 2017 Refresh

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a capable family hauler that seats 7 with reasonable starting price. The Santa Fe gets an ample refresh for 2017; now sporting a revised front and rear, new driver assistance systems, and upgraded technology.

The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe comes equipped with a 3.3 L V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque.  The V6 is paired to a six speed transmission and all trim levels have the option of either front or all-wheel drive. When properly equipped, you can tow up to 5,000 lbs. The Santa Fe is now equipped with the new Drive Mode Select, a 3-position setting that enables the driver to customize steering feedback and shifting with 3 modes: Economy, Comfort, and Sport mode. Robust power and excellent driver assist features are paired to a loftier suspension that makes for an enjoyable and stress free driving experience.

The interior of the Santa Fe has been given many notable upgrades that really enhance the overall appeal. Blue Link telematics, now standard on all Santa Fe’s, offer a vast array of assistance features like turn by turn navigation, remote start, stolen-vehicle recovery, SOS emergency assistance and onboard diagnostic info.

The Santa Fe’s shining attribute would have to be the enormous panoramic sunroof that stretched from the drivers seat back into the third row. Very few competitors offer a panoramic sunroof, and the ones that do are broken into separate pieces, while the Santa Fe’s is simply one glorious glass roof.

The Santa Fe earned the title of 2017 Top Safety Pick+ in IIHS testing by receiving the highest rating possible in all crash test evaluations. Standard safety features this year include adjustable pedals, rollover protection system, traction control, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure warning. This also includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control when equipped with the Ultimate package. This encompassing array of features makes for stellar safety and absolute peace of mind while driving with the family.

Hyundais refresh for the Santa Fe gives it the credibility it needed to become a serious player in this years market. If you’re looking for an affordable family hauler, this SUV is going to be a great fit- and an enjoyable one as well. The Value Edition offers all that the base does and much more, and is starting at just $21,350.

The Turbo R Spec, the next step up, really makes things interesting. 2017 Hyundai Sonata

The 2017 Hyundai Sonata is available in a total of 7 trim levels; including a dynamic Eco model and a svelte Sport 2.0T. The base, SE, Sport, and Limited models are all powered by a 2.4 L four-cylinder engine. All sonatas are front wheel drive; and all models are equipped with a six speed automatic transmission, with the exception of the seven speed Eco model. Interestingly enough; the Eco model has been recorded going 0-60 in just 7.5 seconds, beating its own Sport variation by a full second!

All Sonatas come standard with anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control, an air bag laden cabin, and a rear view camera. New Sonatas also offer Blue Link; Hundais innovative emergency telematics system that includes roadside assistance, crash response, remote door lock control, and monitoring features for parents with teenage drivers that include speed, geo-fencing, and curfew limits.

The 2017 Sonata’s standard features include Bluetooth, a USB port, a six-speaker sound system, satellite radio, HD Radio, a 7-inch touch-screen display, and Hyundai’s BlueLink infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The cabin is notably spacious and offers a refreshingly simple and conservative layout; having matured quite a bit over the years. The exterior design of the new Sonata has been matured and simplified similarly to the interior. The tapered shape is still sharp looking, including aesthetic geometric accents and sleek wells for enhanced aero-dynamicity.

The finest feature of the Sonata is its unequaled value. Although given many upgrades this year, Hyundai has lowered the Sonatas price by $150, making it the least expensive car in its class. The Sonata also has a low cost to own thanks to its stellar reliability and excellent gas mileage. The Sonata may not sport a flashy or bold design, but this is a conscious move by Hyundai to cater to a more practical demographic. Amongst a plethora of family oriented vehicles on the market aiming their sights on sportiness and sportiness alone, its refreshing for practical shoppers to have a sensible option that still offers optimal connectivity and comfort.
