The All-New Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid

40 miles per gallon combined, city and highway.  Let's start there.  Hyundai's first-ever plug-in hybrid obviously gets outstanding gas mileage.  Next, how about a 27 mile all-electric range?  Now, put those numbers together with a comfortable, roomy sedan, full of amenities and the latest in safety technology, and you have the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid.
.
As part of Hyundai's move towards alternative-fuel vehicles, the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) Sonata is a huge step for the company.  From all appearances, they seem to have knocked the first pitch out of the park.  So much so that this Sonata has won a coveted Ward's 10 Best Engines award.  This is an incredible accomplishment considering this is the first year of the vehicles existence.

According to Hyundai, "Its high-capacity battery system offers the option to plug into a regular household electrical outlet for an additional power source.  You can charge on the go by switching to hybrid mode during highway cruising." Recharging times range from less than nine hours with the standard equipped 120V charger to under three hours with a 240V charger.

 Available tech features include:

-Smart Cruise Control withStop/Start Capability
-Standard 5-inch color touchscreen audio with rearvie camera
-Available 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Infinity®

Hyundai Ioniq Makes Debut at NYC Auto Show

Hyundai officially took the wraps off of the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq at this years New York Auto show.  On display were the three versions of the eco-friendly vehicle- Ioniq Electric, Ioniq Hybrid, and Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid.

While the Ioniq is not the first venture into alternatively-powered vehicles, it does make a statement that they are jumping in with both feet.  The Ioniq, from the beginning, is meant to compete head-on with the Toyota Prius, which has been the standard-bearer in the class since...well since forever.  But Hyundai is confident that they are up to the challenge with the Ioniq.

According to Hyundai USA, "Ioniq gives you the power of choice. Each model, all-electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid, is based on a dedicated vehicle platform designed to enhance efficiency, comfort and handling. Plus, our Blue Drive® technology gives you lower pollution and higher performance."

In addition to three different eco-friendly powertrains, the Ioniq offers something else that the Prius arguably does not- superior styling.  Hyundai has made a great effort to build a car that will make the "green" crowd swoon, while not styling it to look "eccentric" as many of the competitors have.

Gurley Leep Hyundai is looking forward bringing the Hyundai Ioniq to the Michiana area later this fall.  Be sure to check back regularly for more information on when it will be available.
