Hyundai Recalls

                Hyundai Motor Co. has recently released information on multiple recalls on different Hyundai models. The Hyundai Tucson, Santa Fe and Sonata all have recalls for different problems.

                The 2016 and 2017 Hyundai Tucson as well as the 2017 Santa Fe are both being recalled for a faulty wiring harness for the accessory trailer hitch. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness that, due to a malfunction of the tow hitch module, may result, in the trailer brake lights being constantly illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. There are 5,669 vehicles affected by this recall. 2016-2017 Tucsons manufactured May 19, 2015, to November 14, 2016, and 2017 Santa Fe vehicles manufactured November 28, 2015, to November 14, 2016.

                The 2016 Hyundai Tucson has another recall for it, 41,000 Tucsons are part of this. 2016 Tucson models with seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions made from May 20, 2015 to May 31, 2016. Hyundai is reporting of a software glitch can stop the vehicles from accelerating. They said that the engines would rev but the SUVs wouldn’t move after coming to a stop. The problem was intermittent and often didn’t repeat itself, the company said in government documents. Engineers traced the problem to the transmission control computer that monitors driving to refine gear shifting. If the gas pedal is repeatedly cycled, the Tucson’s may not accelerate, increasing the risk of a crash.

                Hyundai is also recalling 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata and Sonata Hybrids with panoramic sunroofs. The problem is that the sunroofs can detach while driving. There are 62,811 Sonatas that are affected, these are built during Sonata Hybrids built from December 8, 2014 to August 18, 2015 and normal Sonatas built from May 28, 2014 to March 18, 2016. The anchor that holds the deflector in place is bonded and that bonding can fail. This can lead to the deflector partially detaching, which can interfere with the glass of the sunroof when closing. This interference can result in the glass detaching entirely from the car. Warning signs of this issue are increased noise with the roof open or a sunroof that doesn't fully close.
